Great Umayyad mosque, Baalbek
The mosque is located in the old city of Baalabek. It was founded during the reign of Nour Addin ibn Zinki.
The plan follows the common style for mosques during the first period of Islam. The surface area of the mosque is around 300m2. The plan has a wide courtyard with the surface area around 1000m2 surrounded from the southern side with a wide praying hall 1300m2 and from the three other sides there is one riwaq, 4.00m wide. The minaret has a squared bottom part and an upper octagonal part.
